   History of Hanson Kentucky

Hanson was founded in 1869 and established officially in 1873. We are actually one year older than the Kentucky Derby. The original 50 acre tract was plotted by Henry B. Hanson, an engineer for the Henderson and Nashville RR and our town was named for him. 4 fires in the late 1880's destroyed most of the tobacco factories and wooden structures downtown. Our old bank, train depot and hotel have been lost too but our spirit is alive and well and the remaining historic structures have been preserved for future generations.
